Dragon Boats fly down Lady Bird Lake
A record crowd of about 5,000 attended this year’s Dragon Boat Festival held along Lady Bird Lake at Festival Beach on Saturday, April 26. Families, rowing enthusiasts and others enjoyed a day celebrating Asian culture along with traditional dragon boat racing.
Family fun, cultural events and notable Asians honored at Asia Fest 2008
Held at the future home of the Asian American Resource Center in Northeast Austin, the second annual Asia Fest celebrated Asian culture in its many forms. The May 3 event, sponsored by the Network of Asian American Organizations (NAAO) kicked off Asian Heritage Month in Austin.
Help Donate to Myanmar Relief Efforts
As part of its Global Citizenship endeavor, the United States Asian Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a small little known charitable organization to help provide options to the relief efforts for the victims of Cylcone Nargis in Myanmar.
Kim Son celebrates a golden grand opening
On February 27, 2008, Eric and Esther Cho celebrated the grand opening of the new Kim Son Restaurant with style. Even the ribbon cutting was full of excitement … guests followed lively lion dancers outside as two lions held each end of the ribbon with their mouths, and “snip” went the Chos to great applause. The result was a picture perfect opening for the restaurant.
St. Stephen's student wins second place in Japanese Speech Competition
For the first time in its 131 year history, the prestigious all-girl's school, Rikkyo Jogakuin (also known as St. Margaret's), nestled in the Suginami region of Tokyo, entered an exchange student in a Japanese speech competition. St. Stephen's Audrey Wozniak took second place honors in the competition.
Harwood Luncheon inspires hope among Austinites
