South Asian New Year Festival

Texas Bengali Cultural Alliance presents the South Asian New Year Festival, an Austin tradition and City of Austin sponsored event showcases South Asian culture, traditions and heritage. April 10, noon to 9 p.m. at Zilker Park (Rain Date: April 11). Free admission. 413-9193, www.tbca-austin.org

Event details: traditional open air cultural program (music, dances, fashion show, concert, etc) by local and out-of-town artists (Children & Adult), authentic South Asian cuisine, ethnic dresses, Jewelry, Crafts, Henna, free kid's entertainments (Moonwalk, face-painting, etc). Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell has proclaimed April 10, 2010 as "South Asian New Year Celebration" in Austin and plans to attend the event.
