Be the Change is an annual national day of service, coordinated by South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT), that is held on campuses and in cities across the country. The event is based on Mahatma Gandhi's inspirational quote, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world," and provides opportunities for South Asians and others to give back to their communities.
In 2009, almost 3,000 people contributed 6000 service hours in 70 cities and campuses across the country. This year, Austin will join the ranks of San Francisco, Washington, DC, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New York, Boston and Chicago in hosting one of the bigger Be the Change national days of service events.
