Artist Information Meeting: Thursday, August 11, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
Cultural Arts Division offices (201 E. 2nd Street)
The City of Austin Art in Public Places (AIPP) program of the Cultural Arts Division, Economic Growth & Redevelopment Services Office seeks to commission a professional visual artist /artist team to design, fabricate and install a work of art that will contribute to the new Asian American Resource Center, being constructed at the intersection of Cameron Road and U.S. Highway 183. The goal of the public art is to showcase a work of contemporary public art that honors the cultural heritage and traditional values of Austin’s highly diverse Asian American community. The commissioned piece should engage site users in celebrating the diverse Asian cultures living in Austin. The work should serve as a unique and contemporary enhancement to the facility and the City of Austin. AIPP requests qualifications from professional visual artists and designers who live or work in the state of Texas. One artist/artist team and one alternate will be recommended for the project. The selected artist or artist team will be awarded a design/commission contract.
The budget for design and commission of art is $72,000. Deadline: September 15, 2011, 5 p.m. Questions? Contact Susan Lambe, ASLA, RLA, Art in Public Places Coordinator for the City of Austin - 512.974.7852, susan.lambe@ci.austin.tx.us, www.austintexas.gov/aipp, www.facebook.com/AustinAIPP
