Event Tuesday, February 11, 2014
Austin Community College will hold its first Lunar New Year Festival Tuesday, Feb. 11, to promote diversity and raise cultural awareness about Asian American culture and traditions. The event will be from 11 a.m. to noon at the Northridge Campus (11928 Stonehollow Dr.).
"At ACC, we're so fortunate to have students come from various backgrounds, countries, and upbringing. This diversity is so important both inside and outside of the classroom,” says Tung Huynh, ACC recruiting specialist. “Our Lunar New Year Festival in particular is an interactive way for our college to celebrate and share Asian American culture with our students, faculty, staff, and the greater Austin community."
ACC hosts a number of multicultural events each year designed to promote diversity and raise cultural awareness, and the Lunar New Year Festival provides the Austin community with an opportunity to experience colorful performances and food unique to Asia and Indonesia.
The festival will also feature a number of community partners, including the Asian American Resource Center, Asian American Cultural Center, Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce, SAHELI, Austin Police Department, Austin Fire Department, and the Center for Asian American Studies at the University of Texas at Austin.
In addition to the Lunar New Year Festival, ACC offers a number of Asian language classes, including Chinese and Japanese.
