February 10–March 15 at the Scarbrough Building (6th & Congress). Hundreds of colorful paper butterflies and 1000 cranes to fly in the windows of the historic Scarbrough Building.
Joan Son, an artist working in the medium of paper based in the discipline of origami, will place major installations in five of their windows. In addition to butterflies and cranes, an eight-foot kimono made from more than 900 pieces of Japanese paper, and an American flag will be displayed. The installation is timed to coordinate with the Chinese New Year.
Son’s artwork debuted in the windows of Tiffany & Company in 1993. Her art, ranging from small pieces to major, commissioned installations, may be found in private collections throughout the United States. Her work was recently chosen by the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft in a juried show that toured Texas. Her work has been featured at the Smithsonian Museum Shops, the Dallas Museum of Art and Neiman Marcus.
