Calling all young musicians! This is your chance to participate in a local competition with a chance to perform at a special concert in May at the Long Performing Arts Center.
The fifth annual Young Musicians Festival-Asian American Community Partnership Challenge Cup takes place April 10 and 11. The competition is open to students of all cultures, ages five to 18. Categories include piano, strings and chamber music. The deadline to apply is March 6.
There will be six winners for each of the two divisions and three categories. One grand prize winner will receive the Asian American Community Partnership Challenge Cup. All winners will be awarded a special appearance at a special concert on Saturday, May 29 at 2 p.m., with proceeds benefiting the Ronald McDonald House.
Some of the finest top musicians in the city including Peter Bay of the Austin Symphony Orchestra and members of the Miro String Quartet serve as advisory committee members. Cellist Hai Zheng, who has performed around the world and received top reviews for her recordings, serves as artistic director. Amy Wong Mok, president and CEO of the Asian American Cultural Center, chairs the festival.
