The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office at Houston recently issued a certificate of appreciation to Austin's Network of Asian American Organizations (NAAO) thanking NAAO’s generous donation to assist the victims of Typhoon Morakot. Typhoon Morakot hit Taiwan hard on Aug. 8, 2009 with more 102 inches rain in two days, which resulted in landslides buried hundreds of Taiwanese alive in a blink and disastrous flooding destroyed thousands of homes. The Taiwan government thanks the donations from AAACC, NAAO, AARC and Austin Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce.

The certificate to NAAO states, in Taiwan’s official language:
"This is to appreciate the generous donation from the Network of Asian American Organizations (奧斯丁亞裔聯合會) for assisting the victims of Typhoon Morakot in Taiwan. You donation demonstrates your love to the people of Taiwan. We really appreciate that," signed Director General Joseph Chen of the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office at Houston, Nov. 25, 2009.

NAAO board member and Taiwanese American, Schiller Liao expressed his personal appreciation to NAAO Chair Phil Hoang and his wife for their efforts and contribution.

Liao added that for the earthquake in Haiti, Taiwan has sent two rescue teams to Haiti for saving and helping Haitians. Donations from Taiwan and Austin’s Taiwanese community are also in progress now.
