On Feb. 6, the Families with Children from China held their annual Chinese New Year celebration at Covington Middle School. The all-day show and evening dinner at Buffet Palace was well attended by families enjoying the entertainment and silent auction.
The FCC community raised more than $2,000 to send back to the children who wait for families in the welfare institutes in China, said Becky Harding, president of FCC Austin. This money helps with food and medical supplies through our four supported charities Half the Sky-China Care, The Phillip Hayden Foundation, Love Without Boundaries and The Grant Me a Chance Foundation.
The local China Care organization from The University of Texas, headed by Esther Kwak, partnered with FCC this year to run the event.
"[China Care volunteers] are most generous with the energy and time and FCC Austin is grateful for their help. This meant the parents got to send more time with their children while the China Care volunteers worked the event," Harding said.
FCC Austin offers events throughout the year, including a Chinese Culture Camp in August, educational programs and other gatherings. For more information, visit http://www.main.org/fccaustin/
