Continuing with the tradition of diversity and multi cultureless, Austin now headquarters a new nationwide not for profit charity: Hindu Charities For America (HC4A) that will supplement help to children on federally assisted National School Lunch Program by donating school supplies at a national scale in the communities that Hindus live.

The charity’s inaugural event was successfully completed over a two day period on August 12th and 13th. The event culminated in a donation drive and volunteer efforts that benefited 230 students in four entire elementary campuses within the Round Rock Independent School District (ISD) of the Austin metropolitan area. Over 35 Volunteers teamed up with the Round Rock ISD, local businesses and non-profits in assembling backpacks full of school supplies to give to students on the National School Lunch Program. The next day, HC4A volunteers actually participated in handing out the school supplies to individual students.

The large amount of volunteers that helped to assemble and distribute the school supplies demonstrated the great deal of interest generated by Austin Hindus and their zeal for charitable action.“At the end of the day, we are all a product of the American communities that we live in whether we were born here or immigrated here,” Harish Kotecha, founder of HC4A said “By giving back to those communities in the area that matters most -education - we can enable change at an unparalleled level.”

HC4A hopes to help with most disadvantaged children in Austin and is holding talks to start a project in bay area, CA, Houston and Boston, MA.
