Five festive lions danced their way through the crowds at the Asian American Cultural Center on Jan. 24. Though it was cold, the energy of the crowd brought warmth to the performance.

In addition to the traditional lion dance, people enjoyed dance and musical performances, as well as a martial arts demonstration, Asian foods and activities for kids. New this year was a reading of “The Great Race,” about the twelve animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

Among those having fun were Martha Arosemena, her husband and their two and a half year old daughter, who were attending the Lunar New Year celebration for the first time.

“We want to make sure she learns about different cultures and ways of life,” Arosemena said, adding that her daughter loved the music and dancing at the celebration.
