It was a colorful celebration at the Texas Asian Chamber of Commerce, complete with lion dances, a parade of nations and several ethnic dances including Indian dancing, bamboo dancing and Tahitian dancing. But it was the color green that stood out that evening.
The TACC presented Green Awards honoring sustainability and commitment to the environment during their annual Lunar New Year gala, held on Feb. 7 at the Sheraton Austin Hotel.
“The TACC Green Awards tonight highlight our core values to create a sustainable and prosperous economy for the State of Texas and its capital city, Austin,” said TACC Chair Mohan Kharbanda in his introduction.
Mayor Will Wynn received a special TACC Texas Sustainability Leadership Award; SEMATECH Manufacturing and Dell received the TACC Global Green Award; and local designer Michael Hsu received the TACC Sustainable Horizon Award.
Additionally, four local students received scholarships from the Texas Asian Foundation. Congratulations to Jeewon Kim of the Liberal Arts & Science Academy, Van Lai of Lanier High School, Janus Pan of the Liberal Arts & Science Academy, and Y Vo of Connally High School.
The gala also featured a cocktail hour featuring Asian appetizers, silent auction, live music by The Wheelhouse Band and dancing. Local Austinite Les McGehee served as Emcee for the evening.
