Austin South Asians showcased ethnic culture, tradition and heritage at the eighth annual South Asian New Year Celebration on Saturday, April 11.

More than 3,000 people packed the Zilker Hillside Theater to join the festivities, which went on until 9:30 p.m. The festival included cultural programs, authentic cuisine, ethnic clothing, jewelry, henna, a book fair, children's entertainment and more.

Organizations and performers -- including Asian and non-Asian -- from all over Texas participated. A number of Austin City Council Members, community leaders, dignitaries and representatives from local corporations and organizations also attended the event.

The event was organized by the Texas Bengali Cultural Alliance of Austin, a non-profit multicultural organization. For more information, visit www.tbca-austin.org.
